Irish Coffee

Irish whiskey and sweetened hot coffee are finished with a layer of chilled cream. Use a heat-safe glass or mug, and pour the cream gently so it remains a distinct layer on top.

Irish Coffee served in a mug glass against a black background.

Active preparation: 6 minutes

Ingredients

  • 50 ml Irish whiskey
  • 120 ml Freshly brewed hot coffee
  • 50 ml Pasteurized heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Superfine white sugar

Instructions

  1. Warm a heat-safe mug with warm water, then empty it. Lightly whisk the cold cream until slightly thickened but still pourable.
  2. Add the hot coffee, whiskey and sugar to the mug, and stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Slowly pour the chilled cream over the back of a spoon just above the coffee so it floats.
  4. Serve carefully while warm, without stirring the cream into the coffee.
